It doesn’t matter at all. Some people may be great, some may just be starting out - either way you’re welcome. It’s about getting together and improving your art skills, no matter what shape they’re in.
Who can attend?
Sessions are restricted to over-18s. We strive to make them as accessible as possible, subject to the venue chosen, so if you have any special access needs, feel free to get in touch with the patron (the overall organiser) of the studio you’re looking at.
How much do sessions cost?
They’re free. We may ask for a small contribution to help fund materials for future sessions, but these are entirely voluntary and no-one will ever be excluded for not giving.
Why do I have to register?
Spaces are limited, so registering ensures we know who’s coming and what materials we need to provide. It also lets you keep track of your progress over time.
What happens at a session?
We gather at the start time for about ten minutes, while the muse outlines the format - what materials to use, what the subject is, and whether it’s one work for the whole session or several smaller ones. We then draw for 45 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break to chat, top up on drinks and stretch our legs. Then another 45 minutes. The last ten minutes are for sharing what everyone’s achieved and taking photos to log to your online account, so you can track your progress.
Is it an art lesson?
No. We’re not teachers and we don’t provide tuition. Attendees may well chat to each other during the session, sharing tips and hints, but it isn’t a class - it’s a chance to create alongside other people.
What are the studio, patron and muse?
The studio is an individual event that meets, as near as possible, fortnightly in the same place and at the same time. One town may host more than one studio. The patron is the overall organiser of a specific studio. The muse is the person who sets the theme, media and format for a given session.
